We Connect Data is a data technology company that supports its clients in building market and competitive intelligence by implementing an AI-enabled workflow to systematically fetch and process data about competitors, innovative technologies and market trends in rapidly changing environments.

Location: Our office is in Gent, but we are used to working remotely

As a data scientist, you will work in an interdisciplinary team of Machine Learning engineers, software engineers, designers and Business Analysts, using math, data and machine learning as key assets of DataScouts, our Market & Competitive Intelligence Platform.

You will be involved in improving autonomous stakeholder mapping and trends analysis, uncovering early alerts and blind spots in Market and Competitive Intelligence. You will derive valuable insights by leveraging both supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods.

You are a highly collaborative individual who is capable of managing your own agenda, collaborating with colleagues and prioritising tasks for impact. You search for ways to improve things and you learn quickly.


  • Build AI-enabled solutions alongside the engineering team and evolve the engineering process to scale with data
  • Work on varied data sets to build instant insights
  • Develop and train ML models to better identify patterns and derive accurate predictions.
  • Write highly optimized code to advance our end to end machine learning pipelines
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary environment with colleagues in machine learning, engineering and design
  • Work with our Product Manager to interpret your complex models and translate those into a user-friendly and intuitive experience
  • Work closely with our ecosystem and business analysts on concrete customer cases
  • Present project outcomes and deliverables to internal teams and to our clients.
  • Clean, analyze and visualize data


We don’t expect you to be an expert in everything, but you should have:

  • MSc or PhD level degree in a discipline such as a computer science, machine learning, applied statistics, mathematics or engineering.
  • Python is essential, other languages (e.g. R and Julia ) are beneficial
  • Experience with deep learning concepts and frameworks (i.e. TensorFlow or PyTorch)
  • A deep understanding of graph databases and NEO4J is a plus
  • Good presentation and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex analytical concepts to business people
  • Methodical yet creative problem solver
  • Experience in applying data science and machine learning methods to real-world problems

Additional skills and qualifications:

  • Driven by results, proud of meeting deadlines and motivated by obtaining concrete deliverables.
  • Team player, service-minded, detail-oriented and quality driven
  • Strong analytical and planning skills
  • Track record in successfully leading complex projects
  • Fluency in English (both verbal and written). Knowledge of Dutch or French is an asset
